Alexei Leonov was a legendary Soviet cosmonaut. On March 18, 1965, during the Voskhod 2 mission, he became the first human to perform a spacewalk (EVA). He later commanded the Soviet side of the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project in 1975, the first international crewed space mission. Leonov was also a talented artist who drew scenes from space while in orbit. He received numerous honors, including twice being named Hero of the Soviet Union. Leonov passed away in 2019 and remains a symbol of early space exploration.
