STS-61-A (Challenger) display with flown fabric
Own a piece of Space Shuttle history with this flown fabric fragment from STS-61-A.
This artifact of Space Shuttle Challenger comes presented in a laser-engraved wooden display (6x9cm) with an engraved acrylic top, held together by four hand-mounted screws. The display features a print of the STS-61-A mission patch, an engraved line drawing of Spacelab in Challenger’s payload bay, and mission data including launch and landing dates as well as the number of orbits. The flown fragment is mounted prominently in the display, letting you admire the material that once flew to space and back aboard Space Shuttle Challenger.
STS-61-A launched on October 30, 1985, and returned on November 6, 1985, after completing 112 orbits around Earth. The mission was dedicated to the German-led Spacelab D-1 laboratory, one of the most important international scientific missions of the Space Shuttle era. It also featured the largest Shuttle crew ever flown, with eight astronauts on board, including three ESA astronauts. During the mission, the crew conducted experiments in materials science, biology, medicine, fluid physics, and technology research in microgravity.
Handmade by The New Space Age in Germany. Size and shape of the flown piece may vary. Although it is possible to remove the screws and disassemble the display we advise you not to do so since the flown piece might get lost. Clean only with a microfiber cloth.
