The Soyuz, which has been in continuous use since the 1960s by the Soviet Union and later Russia has become a spaceflight legend and known for its reliability and simplicity. Since its first successful launch in 1968, the Soyuz has ferried astronauts both to the first Soviet space station (Salyut), later Mir and the International Space Station from 1998 onwards.
