8th of September 2000: Space Shuttle Atlantis reaches the speed of sound during the launch of STS-106.
STS-106 was the 99th Shuttle mission in general as well as the fourth Shuttle flight that visited the ISS. Mission objectives were preparations for the first crewed visit to the ISS, Soyuz TM-31, which was to be launched a little more than a month later.
After eleven days in space, the seven crewmembers returned to earth on the 20th of September.
