STS-94 launched on July 1, 1997, and returned on July 17, 1997, completing 251 orbits and traveling 6.2 million miles. The mission was a successful reflight of STS-83, which had to be cut short after less than four days in orbit because of a fuel cell problem. It was also the first time ever that a crew conducted a reflight of a mission. In orbit, they focused on groundbreaking research, including combustion science, fluid physics, and materials processing in microgravity.
