Aleksandr Ivanchenkov was a Soviet cosmonaut. A trained engineer, he joined the cosmonaut corps in 1973 and flew on two missions: Soyuz 29 (1978) to the space station Salyut 6, and Soyuz T-6 (1982), a joint Soviet-French mission which sent the first french astronaut (Jean-Loup Chrétien) to space. In total, he spent about 147 days in space. Ivanchenkov was involved in scientific research and space station maintenance during his missions. He received several high honors, including "Hero of the Soviet Union."
